Mobile Solutions to the Mexican Kidnapping Epidemic:

Kidnapping is a phenomenon intrinsically bound-up with issues of security and (im)mobility. It entails unlawful deprivation of liberty but is also a crime threat that 'travels'. In Mexico, which currently enjoys the dubious reputation of 'kidnap capital of the world', it has reached epidemic proportions. Domestically, high levels of impunity and chronic distrust of Mexican law enforcement compound the problem and feed insecurity Kidnapping has emerged as a major source of societal insecurity in Mexico, with public authorities recording 1,698 kidnappings in 2013.
